Montigny-sur-Loing est un joli village d’Ile-de-France, situé entre la Forêt de Fontainebleau, le Loing et le Gâtinais. Il a été labellisé « Village de Caractère »  en 2018 en raison de son charme, de son environnement et de son riche patrimoine.

 Depuis le XIXème siècle, beaucoup d’artistes nord-américains y ont séjourné et créé, tandis que des artistes français montignons ont souvent parcouru le « Nouveau Monde », où ils ont remporté de grands succès. Leurs talents dans diverses disciplines -peinture, sculpture, céramique, tapisserie, musique ou cinéma- sont reconnus et leurs œuvres exposées et appréciées sur les deux continents.

 Au-delà de cette connivence artistique, les heures sombres des guerres impliquant côte-à-côte l’Amérique du Nord et la France ont été l’occasion de gestes de solidarité et d’amitié.

Ce livre de 90 pages, richement illustré, raconte ces « destins croisés », en temps de paix comme pendant les guerres, qui fondent depuis deux siècles une relation spéciale entre les Américains (Etats-Unis et Canada) et les Montignons.

En version bilingue français-anglais, « Destins croisés » complète la trilogie éditée par l’A.S.M.E., après « Jours heureux à Montigny-sur-Loing » (2017), qui porte sur les maisons remarquables du village et les quelques 170 artistes et autres personnalités qui y ont vécu depuis le XVIIIème siècle et
« Montigny-sur-Loing et la Grande Guerre : souvenirs d’un village d’Ile-de-France 1914-1918 » (2018).

L’édition de ces trois livres a bénéficié d’une collaboration avec le Pôle « Industries graphiques » du lycée André Malraux de Montereau-Fault-Yonne.

Nestled between the Forest of
Fontainebleau, the Loing River, and the
region known as the Gâtinais, the village
of Montigny-sur-Loing was awarded in
2018 the distinction of “Village of

Character,” in recognition of its charm and
its place in the cultural history of the
greater-Paris region. 
Part of that cultural history links French
and North American painters, sculptors,
ceramicists, musicians, film-makers and
others, who lived and worked in Montigny
from the 19th century onwards. The fruits
of their artistic exchanges can be found in
museums and private collections on both
continents. 

Partners in assuring peace, the Allied
French, US, and Canadian troops also
forged strong ties in two World Wars and
later in NATO, ties which still link all three
nations. 

This richly illustrated 90-page book,
explores more than two centuries of
“intertwined destinies” and shared history,
creating a special link between Americans
and Canadians and Montigny-sur-Loing.

“Intertwined Destinies”, a bilingual
French-English publication,completes the
trilogy published by A.S.M.E. The two
previous volumes - "Happy Days in
Montigny-sur-Loing" (2017) focuses on
remarkable houses and the more than 170
artists and other notables who have lived
in Montigny since the 18th century,
“Montigny-sur-Loing and the Great War:
Memories of a Village in Ile-de-France,
1914-1918” (2018), recounts the personal
and public history of the effects of World
War I. Both are available in French.

The publication of these three books
benefitted from the support of and
collaboration with the Graphic Industries
Department of the Lycée André Malraux in
Montereau-Fault-Yonne.
